Why the Trek Allant+ is our Best Selling Electric Bike

The Trek Allant+ pushes the boundaries of possibility on every trip, from fast commutes to longer leisure rides. Its hill-flattening boost, distance-shrinking range and comprehensive features make it easy and fun to ride further. This E-bike could change your life...

You can do more by bike instead of taking the car

These bang-up-to-date e-bikes are best sellers here at Bay Cycles with nothing but positive feedback from both customers and the staff who use them. Lisa and Jez both run Allant+ 8 bikes with 'Range Boost' second batteries and Bontrager bags.

Trek has a winning formula with this range and we focus on two models – the practical Allant+ 5 and the sportier and lighter Allant+ 8. Both share the same proven and reliable Bosch Performance CX motor that’s spot on for the hilly terrain we have here in Devon. These e-bikes are also fully equipped – with integrated lights, mudguards, luggage rack and stand – so you’re ready to go, anytime of day or night, whatever the weather. It's just like jumping into your car…

So what makes the Allant+ e-bikes so popular?

Here’s a run through on the features and benefits:

Frame and Wheels – Fit for purpose

As with all of Trek’s current e-bikes, the Allant+ frame is designed around a crank driven motor. It’s a purpose built frame designed to work as a whole e-bike system, not simply a standard frame with a motor and battery bolted on. The crank driven motor provides the right weight distribution and the frame is tested to withstand heavy-duty use.

The same goes for the wheels. Sturdy rims are built onto sealed hubs and shod with robust puncture resistant tyres. Ready for the debris of rough urban roads or the grit and dirt of canal paths and back roads.

Bosch Motor and Battery – Proven and Reliable

Bosch are leaders in the world of E-bikes and have a fully evolved and reliable range of motors, batteries and controllers that are standard equipment on the Allant+ 5 and 8 models. These models get the top spec 250W/85Nm Performance Line CX motor. This will get you up the steepest of hills whilst maintaining your speed (a much noticeable difference when compared to a lower powered e-bike), with four easy to control modes that allow you to adjust the assistance level on the move. A handlebar mounted display and controller are user friendly and weatherproof.

Battery life and mileage range are a common talking points when it comes to E-bikes. Trek uses removable and lockable Bosch batteries on the Allant+ bikes, allowing on-bike or off-bike charging to suit your needs. The Allant+ 5 uses a 500Wh battery with a longer-range 625Wh on the Allant+ 8. Quick and easy to charge, it’s a very user-friendly system. The range you can travel (depending on the battery spec and conditions) can be up to 80 miles on a single charge. Rider weight, weather conditions, road surface and the terrain will all have implications on the range.

A Comfortable Ride – Just get on and go...

If you’re spending more time cycling (and we’re convinced that you will on these e-bikes) you need to be comfortable. A relaxed riding position that works well for busy city streets as well as out on the open road is a good starting point and this is the foundation to the Allant+ design. Ergonomically shaped handlebar grips and the comfortable yet supportable saddle further enhance this. The large volume, fast rolling tyres smooth out rough roads and add the stability you need if you’ve got a load on board.

Fully Equipped – Ready to ride, rain or shine, day or night

The Trek Allant+ e-bikes are equipped and ready to go straight from the shop. These are user-friendly bikes that work whether you’re dressed in cycling kit or your regular clothing. The integrated lighting runs from the bike’s battery and the full-length mudguards keep you rolling in all weather conditions. Just add a lock and helmet (ask us for recommendations) and you’re all set…

Trek Allant+ 5 or 8?  Which should you go for?

Allant+ 5:

The Allant+5 is the more practical bike with three frame options (subject to availability) and front suspension. It has a MIK compatible rear luggage rack designed to take bigger bags and heavier loads.

This e-bike uses a smaller capacity 500Wh battery (but it's still plenty big enough) mounted externally on the frame. It uses the same powerful 250W/85Nm motor as the Allant+ 8. The Bosch handlebar controller is the simpler Purion model, which is fixed to the bike and very user-friendly and intuitive.

The Allant+ 5 has a 9 speed Shimano transmission.

Allant+ 8:

Trek’s Allant+ 8 is the top spec aluminium frame model with a rigid fork giving a sportier feel – it comes in two frame style options. The 8 is still fully equipped but for lighter loads and a more spirited ride.

This model uses Trek’s R.I.B battery system – integrated into the frame’s down tube. The battery is a larger 625Wh unit and there is the option for a second 'range extender'  battery to be used to increase the bike’s range. The battery locks into place but is easily removable for charging or security. It uses the Bosch Kiox controller, which can be linked to a smart phone app and can act as an immobiliser when removed from the bike.

The Allant+ 8 is equipped with a 10 speed Shimano transmission.
