Bosch has announced the all-new Smart System, taking e-bike control, connectivity and range to the next level. There’s a larger capacity battery, a new Kiox 300 head unit, Bluetooth enabled wireless switchgear and an updated Performance Line CX motor.
The majority of E-bikes we sell here at Bay Cycles – both from Trek and Whyte – are equipped with Bosch systems so we’re pleased to see these developments. Expect to see this tech first on the 2022 carbon Trek Rail E-MTBs.
Bosch has introduced a new larger capacity 750Wh PowerTube battery – the largest previously has been 625Wh. This new battery, provides a 20% greater range than the PowerTube 625 and is therefore ideal for long, hilly and challenging rides – spot on for the terrain we have in south Devon.
This new lithium-ion battery weighs 4.4kg, and has improved charging times too – it goes from from empty to 50% in 2.5 hours and to full capacity in 6 hours. It’s also equipped with a Battery Management System (BMS) that protects the battery cells from overload. This isn’t an upgradable option though - you can’t retrofit it into existing into 625Wh frames - and will only be available on premium 2022 model year bikes.
Bosch has made some cosmetic changes to the motor housing and although the mechanical aspects stay the same, internally all the electronics are new. The torque remains the same at 85Nm.
This powerful motor enables rapid acceleration after tight turns and obstacles at a low cadence and facilitates starting up on the steepest of hills. For fast sprints, the motor also supports you at high cadence. The current motor has become a benchmark motor for performance E-MTBs and this raises the game even further.
This new Bosch app is the key to your ‘Connected Biking’ experience. It connects you with your E-Bike — and your E-Bike with the digital world. Via Bluetooth, the eBike Flow app can be easily connected to the new LED remote switchgear too, so you can choose whether to ride with or without the Kiox 300 head unit. Enhancing the eBike experience
Use the eBike Flow app to download new features and updates for components such as the battery or motor and send them to your eBike via Bluetooth. That way it's always up to date and you get to enjoy more options.
Recording activities
Track your ride and fitness data as soon as you get started. If desired, the Activity Tracking for iPhone users can also sync all data automatically with Apple Health. When you take a break, the recording stops automatically.
Customising riding modes
Adjust the riding mode exactly to your needs: You can finely adjust the Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo riding modes so that they offer you more support or consume less power.

Use the Home screen to gain a quick overview of everything that's important. Whether battery status, remaining range, distance travelled, or the next service appointment.

Optimal Readability
The LEDs are highly visible in sunlight, and the brightness of the display adapts flexibly to the ambient light: This means that readability is maintained even in changing light conditions. You can also quickly recognise the selected riding mode by the respective colour of the readout.
Smart connectivity
The LED remote connects the eBike with the eBike Flow app. This enables you to call up all-important riding data, using your smartphone. It is also possible to carry out software updates independently.
Smart Walk Assist
Simply press the minus button, move the eBike and you will feel the support. Walk Assist is especially helpful when biking in steep and rough terrain where you may not be able to ride but need help pushing.
Improved Ergonomics
The LED remote boasts optimal ergonomics and intuitive operation. With the ergonomic 'L' design, the remote is in easy reach allowing operation of all buttons perfectly with your thumb.
The small but powerful Kiox 300 head unit impresses not only because of its compact size, but also for its colour display, which ensures optimum readability by day and night. It has a robust and weatherproof construction with a clear display and is intuitive to use while riding. Operation via the LED remote is simple and is visually supported by animations and images, giving you all the data you need at a quick glance.
